Uncertainty Surrounds Top QB in Upcoming NFL Draft

A recent ESPN report analyzing the 2025 NFL Draft quarterback class has identified two potential targets for the Cleveland Browns: Shedeur Sanders of Colorado and Cam Ward of Miami. 1 The report surveyed 20 scouts and executives, revealing a near-even split on who is the top prospect. Eleven respondents favored Sanders, while nine preferred Ward.

The survey, conducted earlier in the season, painted a less clear picture. At that time, four different quarterbacks received votes. Carson Beck led the pack with five votes, but his stock has since fallen after a disappointing season and a UCL tear suffered during the SEC Championship game, prompting his transfer to Miami. Jalen Milroe of Alabama and Quinn Ewers of Texas also received votes, with four and one, respectively. While both Milroe and Ewers are eligible for the NFL draft, they may choose to remain in college, given the lucrative opportunities available to star college quarterbacks in the NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) era. With the NFL’s increasing impatience with developing quarterbacks, the value of experience in college has never been higher.
