The Philadelphia Eagles are hungry for NFL Honors recognition, a drought they’ve endured for over a decade. Despite public dismissals of the awards’ importance, the organization and its players crave national recognition. This year’s talented roster offers several potential candidates.
Jalen Hurts faces a steep climb for MVP, currently behind frontrunners like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. While his performance is strong, he’d likely need to lead the NFC to secure the award. Saquon Barkley, however, has a legitimate shot at Offensive Player of the Year. He leads the odds, with Derrick Henry his closest competitor. A strong finish to the season could make Barkley the first Eagle to ever win this award.
On the defensive side, Jalen Carter’s Defensive Player of the Year hopes have dimmed due to a lack of sacks and interceptions. Quinyon Mitchell, though, is a top contender for Defensive Rookie of the Year. He trails only Jared Verse, but his exceptional coverage skills and the lack of opportunities for interceptions due to teams avoiding him make his case compelling. A standout performance against the Rams and Verse could significantly boost his odds.
The Eagles’ rookie offensive players haven’t made enough of an impact to be considered for Offensive Rookie of the Year. Finally, the Comeback Player of the Year award is unlikely to go to an Eagle, as the team doesn’t have a prominent player returning from significant injury. While Mekhi Becton’s resurgence is notable, the award often favors players returning from injury rather than simply improved performance. The Eagles last won this award with Michael Vick in 2010.
