The Philadelphia Eagles, even with their third-string quarterback, delivered a resounding 41-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys, who were also playing their backup quarterback. This dominant performance secured the Eagles’ 13th win of the season and the NFC East title. With Minnesota’s later win against Green Bay, Philadelphia clinched the NFC’s No. 2 seed.

The Eagles’ success stemmed from a combination of factors: a talented roster, an opportunistic defense, and a resilient spirit. They forced four turnovers, benefited from Saquon Barkley’s explosive running, and overcame injuries to key players. The win was particularly impressive given that they were without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts (concussion) and “defensive” play-caller Nakobe Dean (abdominal injury). While the Cowboys were also missing key players like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, they had previously demonstrated their ability to win with backup quarterback Cooper Rush. This game, however, was a different story.

The Eagles demonstrated significant improvement after a shaky performance the previous week against the Washington Commanders. Barkley ran for 167 yards, surpassing 2,000 rushing yards for the season and moving within striking distance of Eric Dickerson’s single-season record. Defensively, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, after being ejected the previous week, had two interceptions against Rush, including a 70-yard pick-six for the Eagles’ first defensive touchdown of the season.

Despite a brief Cowboys comeback with a touchdown drive, the Eagles quickly regained control. A fumble recovery and Gardner-Johnson’s second interception led to further scoring. Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett, battling a rib injury, orchestrated an impressive drive, including a long completion to Grant Calcaterra and a touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith. Pickett’s resilience was short-lived, however. He left the game in the third quarter after aggravating his rib injury, forcing the Eagles to go to their third-string quarterback. Even with this setback, the Eagles maintained their dominance and cruised to victory.
