Mahomes and Jones Heap Praise on Hurts After Super Bowl Rematch
Super Bowl LIX served up a thrilling rematch of Super Bowl LVII, a game that saw the Kansas City Chiefs edge out the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35. While the Eagles fell short, Jalen Hurts’ performance was nothing short of spectacular, racking up 304 passing yards, 70 rushing yards, and four touchdowns. Patrick Mahomes also put on a show with four touchdowns, 182 passing yards, and 76 rushing yards.
Hurts’ showing in that Super Bowl clearly left a mark on Mahomes and the Chiefs. Following the game, Mahomes spoke with NFL Films, expressing his admiration for his counterpart.
“I said it in my press conference, but if there were any doubters, there’s no more,” Mahomes commented. “Everybody thinks of him as a runner, but the way he was able to throw the football, especially in a Super Bowl, it shows the talent that he has.”
Mahomes added, “The way that he works, I expect him to get better and better every year, and I expect to play him in a lot of big games as my career goes on.”
Chris Jones, the Chiefs’ defensive tackle and a team leader, echoed Mahomes’ sentiments, praising Hurts’ poise and talent on the NFL’s biggest stage. “He had the best performance in the Super Bowl that I’ve ever seen from a quarterback,” Jones stated. “Running the ball, throwing the ball, he balled out.”
Hurts Focused on Super Bowl Victory
Now, Jalen Hurts has his sights set on Super Bowl victory. He’s ready for the challenge and determined to achieve his ultimate goal: bringing a Super Bowl championship to Philadelphia and solidifying his legacy as one of the best players of his era. He also has the added motivation of becoming one of the few quarterbacks to defeat Mahomes in the playoffs.
