Patriots Secure Stefon Diggs in $69 Million Deal, Bolstering Drake Maye’s Options
The New England Patriots have significantly upgraded their receiving corps by signing Stefon Diggs to a three-year, $69 million contract, including $26 million guaranteed, according to ESPN. This move provides second-year quarterback Drake Maye with a valuable new target.

Diggs, a top free agent, finalized the deal after visiting the Patriots last week. His 2023 season with the Houston Texans was cut short by an ACL tear in October. However, reports indicate his recovery is progressing rapidly, with him already running at full speed and showing improved agility. Despite this, his availability for training camp remains uncertain.
The 31-year-old Diggs brings a decade of NFL experience and a proven track record, having recorded six consecutive 1,000-plus yard seasons before his injury. Since 2020, he ranks among the NFL’s top receivers in both yards and touchdowns. In Houston, he quickly became a favorite target for C.J. Stroud, registering 47 catches, 496 yards, and three touchdowns before his injury.

Diggs’s career includes stints with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him, and the Buffalo Bills, where he spent four seasons. While his talent is undeniable, he has also developed a reputation for being temperamental, leading to his trades from both teams. However, C.J. Stroud defended Diggs last season, dismissing the media’s portrayal of him. The Patriots’ acquisition of Diggs signifies a major investment in their offense and a strong commitment to supporting Drake Maye’s development.
